Vicente Gonzalez, currently serving in the U.S. Congress as the representative for Texas’ 34th District since 2017, shared his thoughts on several topics through social media this past week. Gonzalez, who has strong ties to Texas, having been born in Corpus Christi and residing in McAllen, addressed cultural celebrations, healthcare issues, and regional well-wishes in recent communications.
On April 16, 2025, Gonzalez expressed his admiration for the late Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, the influential Tejano singer, by stating, "Feliz Dia de Selena! Today, and every day, we honor the unforgettable memory of the Queen of Tejano. South Texans are incredibly proud to celebrate Selena as she continues to inspire generations across the world. #SelenaDay".
The following day, on April 17, 2025, Gonzalez directed his attention to healthcare matters, particularly Medicaid, as he criticized the actions of House Republicans. In a post, he declared, "Medicaid is one of our most important tools in fighting poverty. Recently, House Republicans passed a budget that would gut Medicaid and leave our most vulnerable Americans without healthcare. I will always fight to protect Medicaid coverage for South Texans!".
On April 18, 2025, Gonzalez extended well-wishes to his constituents by sharing a brief message regarding the religious observance of Good Friday. He wrote, "Wishing South Texas a blessed Good Friday.".
Gonzalez, aged 55, holds a background in law and aeronautics, having graduated from Embry–Riddle Aeronautical University in 1992 and later earning his JD from Texas Wesleyan University in 1996. His career in Congress began when he succeeded Rubén Hinojosa.
