1,244 students enrolled in Brooks County schools during 2023-24 school year

There were 1,244 students enrolled in Brooks County schools in the 2023-24 school year, 3.2% less than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

At the time, Brooks County had the 68th lowest enrollment in the state.

Data also showed that Hispanic students made up 97% of the student body, the largest percentage in Brooks County schools, followed by white students at 2.3%, Black students at 0.4%, Asian students at 0.2% and American Indian students at 0.1%.

A recent study by WalletHub classified Texas as one of the least-educated states in the U.S., ranking it 41st out of 50 in educational quality and student outcomes.
