Hispanic students comprised the most prevalent ethnic group in Kenedy County schools in the 2023-24 school year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of the 130 students attending Kenedy County schools, 70% were Hispanic. White students were the second largest ethnicity, making up 23.1% of the total enrollment.

In the previous school year, Hispanic students also made up the largest ethnic group in Kenedy County, comprising 67.3% of the student body.

Sarita Elementary School had the most diverse student body in Kenedy County, including white, American Indian, Black, Asian, Hispanic, Pacific Islander, and multiracial.

When compared to the previous school year, total public school enrollment in the county increased by 32.7%.

“As a result, many districts in our very own Central Texas region are being forced to cut back on essential programs, services, consider school closures, and adopt deficit budgets just to provide students with the education that they deserve,” Hutto ISD Trustee James Matlock said.
