There were 11 African American students enrolled in Raul Yzaguirre Schools for Success District in the 2022-23 school year, 10% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Raul Yzaguirre Schools for Success District welcomed 1,771 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, African American students comprised 0.6% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

Raul Yzaguirre Schools for Success District roughly covers schools within Harris County and has a main office in Houston.

Among the six schools in Raul Yzaguirre Schools for Success District, North East STEM Academy recorded the highest enrollment of African American students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of 10 students.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
