Washington, D.C - Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34) has announced that Sahatya Valadez, a student at Brownsville’s James Pace Early College High School, is the winner of the 2023 Congressional Art Competition. Sahatya’s winning piece, “Enjoying My Elote”, will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol. This year, Congressman Gonzalez received a record number of entries, totaling 74 from 16 high schools in the 34th Congressional District of Texas.
Art Competition winners will also be awarded a trip to Washington, D.C. and will be eligible to receive a $3,000 art scholarship to attend the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), should they apply and be accepted for enrollment.
“I would like to congratulate Sahatya on this extraordinary piece of art,” stated Congressman Gonzalez. “Sahatya showcases her artistic skill through great command of prisma color and acrylic paint, and is one of many young, talented South Texas artists who submitted artwork. I encourage all South Texans to continue creating and displaying their talent and creativity inside and outside the classroom. I look forward to hosting Sahatya in Washington, D.C. and displaying her piece inside the U.S. Capitol for all to see.”
