City of La Feria issued the following announcement on Dec. 7.
WFS Cameron has received additional WIOA funding this year to subsidize vocational scholarships and internships for qualifying adults and youth in an attempt to create better job opportunities for those most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. These eligibility-based opportunities target low-income adults, workers who lost their job through no fault of their own, and youth who are currently not studying.
[What They offer]
Scholarships for vocational programs in in-demand industries.
Internships or subsidized employment in participating worksites.
[Who can qualify]
A) Adults who meet income eligibility guidelines (i.e. public assistance recipients) OR
B) Dislocated workers (i.e. someone who has been laid off through no fault of their own) OR
C) Youth aged 16-24 with one of these barriers: Deficient in basic literacy skills, school dropout, foster child, homeless or runaway, offender, pregnant or a parent, English language learner (i.e. Spanish-speaking household), or have a disability.
[Basic eligibility requirements]
Being a U.S. Citizen or non-citizen authorized to work in the U.S.;
Being registered with Selective Service (if males 18+);
Having Low-Income.
