On February 9, 2025, Rep. Gonzalez highlighted the significance of Black History Month by urging the community to honor "the powerful voices and contributions of Black Americans in South Texas and across the country." He referenced a story from KRGV about local contributions. "February is Black History Month— let us honor the powerful voices and contributions of Black Americans in South Texas and across the country."

In a tweet dated February 10, 2025, Rep. Gonzalez expressed pride in securing funding for cancer research at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV). He emphasized that significant progress is being made locally: "Great strides in cancer research being made right here in the Valley!
