There were six American Indian students enrolled in Los Fresnos CISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 20% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Los Fresnos CISD schools welcomed 10,565 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, American Indian students comprised 0.1% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

Los Fresnos CISD roughly covers schools within Cameron County and has a main office in Los Fresnos.

Among the 14 schools in Los Fresnos CISD schools, Los Fresnos High School recorded the highest enrollment of American Indian students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of three students.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
