There were 17,034 students enrolled in Harlingen CISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, a slight decrease from the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 51.6% of them were boys, and 48.4% were girls.

Data also shows that the majority of students were Hispanic, representing 94.2% of the Harlingen CISD total enrollment.

Harlingen CISD roughly covers schools within Cameron County with its main office in Harlingen.

Among the 31 schools in Harlingen CISD, Harlingen High School recorded the highest enrollment of 1,942 students in the 2022-23 school year.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
