Point Isabel ISD Education: 1,976 students were enrolled in schools in 2021-22 school year

There were 1,976 students enrolled in Point Isabel ISD schools in the 2021-22 school year, 4.6% less than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2021-22 school year, 52.2% of them were boys, and 47.8% were girls.

Data also shows that the majority of students were Hispanic, representing 92.2% of the Point Isabel ISD total enrollment.

Point Isabel ISD roughly covers schools within Cameron County with its main office in Port Isabel.

Among the five schools in Point Isabel ISD, Port Isabel High School recorded the highest enrollment of 609 students in the 2021-22 school year.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

"The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students... dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools... gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
