Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush said two state action plans have been approved by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for over $285 million in Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery funds.
The funds will go toward long-term recovery from 2018 and 2019 flooding in South Texas and the Lower Rio Grande Valley.
"Storms like Hurricane Hanna bring to light how important long-term recovery dollars are to not only rebuilding communities, but increasing resiliency against future storms," Bush said in a press release. "Through the use of strategic housing and infrastructure recovery programs, we are positioning Texas for a more comprehensive recovery that will truly help communities rebuild."
For 2018 disasters, Cameron County will receive $72.913 million, which should see 70% provided to low- and moderate-income families over the next six years. For 2019 disasters, Cameron County will receive a $212.74 million allocation, with the same directive.
