Gonzalez has been vocal about funding for local projects, recognizing young talent in technology, and critiquing federal economic policies.

On January 30, 2025, Rep. Gonzalez expressed satisfaction with securing over $17 million in funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) for the Laguna Madre Water District. He criticized the previous administration's decision to freeze this funding, describing it as "much-needed" and emphasizing its importance for providing a drought-resilient water source to the region. "Proud to celebrate over $17M in funding from BIL for Laguna Madre Water District."

The following day, January 31, 2025, Gonzalez highlighted his participation in a ceremony honoring Aayush Mitra, the winner of the 2024 Congressional App Challenge from South Texas ISD Science Academy. He underscored the significance of encouraging young individuals to engage in technological innovation that can contribute positively to society. On February 1, 2025, Rep. Gonzalez criticized former President Trump's economic policies, particularly focusing on tariffs imposed on Mexico and Canada. He argued that these tariffs would have adverse effects on residents of the Rio Grande Valley (RGV), countering promises made by Trump regarding price reductions.
