There were 63 white students enrolled in Rio Hondo ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 16.7% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Rio Hondo ISD schools welcomed 1,622 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, white students comprised 3.9% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

Rio Hondo ISD roughly covers schools within Cameron County and has a main office in Rio Hondo.

Among the four schools in Rio Hondo ISD schools, Rio Hondo Elementary School recorded the highest enrollment of white students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of 33 students.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
