There were 9,113 Hispanic students enrolled in San Benito CISD schools in the 2021-22 school year, 5.4% less than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that San Benito CISD schools welcomed 9,211 students during the 2021-22 school year. Among them, Hispanic students comprised 98.9% of the student body to be one of the most represented ethnicities in the district.

San Benito CISD roughly covers schools within Cameron County and has a main office in San Benito.

Among the 21 schools in San Benito CISD schools, San Benito High School recorded the highest enrollment of Hispanic students in the 2021-22 school year, with a total of 2,039 students.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
