Enrollment Analysis: American Indian students comprised 0% of Brownsville ISD schools' student body in 2021-22 school year

There were six American Indian students enrolled in Brownsville ISD schools in the 2021-22 school year, 20% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Brownsville ISD schools welcomed 38,448 students during the 2021-22 school year. Among them, American Indian students comprised 0% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

Brownsville ISD roughly covers schools within Cameron County and has a main office in Brownsville.

Among the 52 schools in Brownsville ISD schools, Egly Elementary School recorded the highest enrollment of American Indian students in the 2021-22 school year, with a total of two students.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
