The Texas Water Development Board, a governing body in charge of overseeing water system improvements across the state, has approved financial assistance totaling over $140,000 to the City of Lyford.

Lyford is expected to purchase property that will be used to establish a stormwater detention area, detention pond, drainage piping, and a pump station. Each of these additions to city property is expected to make a large impact and improve the city's ability to handle water effectively.

The detention pond that is due to be constructed will serve as supplemental storage and the new pump station will increase the flow out of the system to prevent flooding in the city.

In recent months, the TWDB has given out funds to various localities for several different water system improvement projects. This particular project is eligible for federal grants and matching funds, which might have made it a priority for the TWDB.
