The Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation (BCIC) Board of Directors recently approved $163,450 in relief grant funding, adding to the first round of StartUp Texas COVID-19 Relief Grant Fund grants and bringing the total relief the community has received from the fund to over $300,000.
The new round of grants will provide funding to 20 organizations that provide services or meet critical needs, according to the BCIC website.
BCIC has assisted in administering over $5 million in COVID relief grants through the U.S. Small Business Administration, according to the release.
“Our small businesses are the foundation to our local economy, and we are deploying every resource possible to support their recovery efforts while also providing tools and resources to help them remain innovative as we move into a new business landscape,” BCIC Executive Director Josh Mejia said. “These programs will help our retail, food, manufacturing and hospitality industry in Brownsville, Texas, as they look forward to providing new ways to service our markets.”
