City of Harlingen issued the following announcement on March 16
The City of Harlingen continues to monitor the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) situation along with Cameron County, state, and federal health officials. As always, the safety and well-being of the community are of utmost importance to Harlingen City leaders. Although no cases have been reported in the Rio Grande Valley, we continue to take pro-active measures to help prevent the disease.
Following the recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control and The Texas Department of State Health Services, all City-sponsored events and activities have been canceled or postponed including
Museum
All activities canceled
Downtown
Walking Tour March 21 & 28 canceled
Art Night March 27 canceled
Morning Coffee April 2 canceled
Market Days April 4 canceled
DID Board Meeting April 7 canceled
Classic Car Show Postponed
Auditorium
City sponsored events canceled. Most public events canceled- but check ahead before going.
Parks & Recreation Department
League teams canceled
Future park & building rentals canceled until further notice
Tu Salud Si Cuenta canceled
Aquatic activities canceled
Harlingen Public Library
All activities canceled including the AARP Tax Preparation and Book Swap. The library is offering a take-home option for two children’s craft programs, Let it Grow scheduled for March 20 and the After School Adventures: Scratch–Off Art on March 27. Patrons will be able to drive-thru and pick up a bag with the craft supplies. To request a supply bag call the Children’s Desk at (956) 216-5819.
Meantime, the library has thousands of books, magazines, and audiobooks available through RB Digital that you can choose from. All you need is a library card. Then it’s as easy as downloading the app.
