Rep. Vicente Gonzalez, U.S. Congressman from Texas’ 34th district, shared updates on community events and Social Security’s anniversary through a series of posts on X in mid-August 2025.
On August 12, Gonzalez highlighted the opening of a new veterinary facility in Harlingen: “Today, Team Gonzalez presented a letter on my behalf at the Harlingen Urgent Veterinarian ribbon cutting ceremony. This new facility is the only veterinary service south of San Antonio offering CT scans. As a pet owner myself, I know this establishment will prove invaluable for”. The congressman underscored the importance of accessible advanced veterinary care for pet owners in the region.
The following day, August 13, Gonzalez marked Social Security’s milestone anniversary by joining local seniors at an event organized with AARP. He wrote: “Team Gonzalez proudly joined @AARP to celebrate Social Security’s 90th Anniversary alongside South Texas’ seniors who have contributed to this system. Our seniors deserve the benefits they’ve rightfully earned after a lifetime of service and hard work. I will continue fighting”.
On August 14, commemorating nine decades since President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Social Security into law, Gonzalez stated: “On this day 90 years ago, FDR signed Social Security into law, so all Americans can retire with dignity. Social Security isn’t a handout; it’s money our seniors invested in through a lifetime of hard work.”
Vicente Gonzalez has represented his district following victories over Mayra Flores in both the 2022 and 2024 general elections. In 2024, he secured re-election with approximately 51% of the vote compared to Flores’ nearly 49%. In the previous cycle in 2022, he also prevailed with about 53% of votes against Flores’ roughly 44%.
