Rep. Vicente Gonzalez, U.S. Congressman representing Texas’s 34th district, posted a series of tweets on August 18, 2025, criticizing recent economic policies and their impact on American families.

In his first tweet, Gonzalez highlighted the financial strain imposed by new tariffs: “As families across the nation prepare for back-to-school, the Trump Administration has imposed tariffs that will increase costs for essential school supplies.” (August 18, 2025).

He reaffirmed his stance in a subsequent post: “I stand committed to protecting hardworking families and fighting against policies that burden South Texas households with unnecessary costs.” (August 18, 2025).

Addressing broader economic concerns, Gonzalez added: “Despite promises to lower everyday costs for American families, actions have proven otherwise. Thanks to the Republican’s One Big, Ugly Bill, costs will continue to increase in areas like healthcare and food assistance.” (August 18, 2025).

Vicente Gonzalez has represented Texas’s 34th congressional district since defeating Mayra Flores in both the 2022 and 2024 general elections. In the most recent contest in 2024, he secured victory with approximately 51.3% of the vote compared to Flores’s 48.7%. In their previous matchup in 2022, Gonzalez won with about 52.7% of the vote.
