Representative Vicente Gonzalez, who has served Texas’s 34th congressional district since 2017, recently shared several updates via social media concerning trade agreements and education funding. Gonzalez, a Corpus Christi native residing in McAllen, emphasized ongoing efforts to support his constituents in areas including agricultural trade and school financing.
On July 11, 2025, Gonzalez posted: “Today, I joined @RyanGuillen and @texasproduce CEO, Dante Galeazzi to urgently request the @CommerceGov to grant a 90-day extension to continue the Tomato Suspension Agreement of 2019.” This statement highlights his collaboration with other officials and industry leaders in seeking an extension from the U.S. Department of Commerce for the agreement regulating tomato imports.
In a subsequent post on July 11, 2025, Gonzalez further commented on the impact of this agreement: “The Tomato Suspension Agreement helps keep tomato prices low, gives us access to fresh produce and boosts the Texas economy. I will continue to work with our partners to ensure that South Texans do not pay higher prices for essential foods.”
Later that day, he addressed educational funding for his district: “Proud to deliver $170 million dollars in Title I funding for TX-34 school districts this year. I will continue to fight against any efforts that seek to eliminate or withhold funds from our K-12 schools.”
Vicente Gonzalez was born in Corpus Christi in 1967 and graduated from Embry–Riddle Aeronautical University in 1992 before earning a JD from Texas Wesleyan University in 1996. He replaced Rubén Hinojosa as representative of Texas’s 34th district.
