Rep. Vicente Gonzalez, who has represented Texas’s 34th District in the U.S. Congress since 2017, recently shared updates on social media regarding his public appearances and concerns affecting his constituents. Gonzalez, born in Corpus Christi in 1967 and currently residing in McAllen, has been an active voice on issues ranging from disaster response to veterans’ welfare.
On July 14, 2025, Gonzalez highlighted his appearance on MSNBC Politics National with Reverend Al Sharpton to discuss several pressing topics. He stated: “On Saturday I joined @TheRevAl on @MSNBC Politics National to discuss the tragic flooding in Central Texas, recent court rulings on birthright citizenship, Texas redistricting, and the disaster that is the Big Ugly Bill.”
Later that day, Gonzalez shared a community milestone involving a centenarian constituent. On July 14, he posted: “Team Gonzalez was proud to join Porfidia “Porfie” Paz Rubio to celebrate her 100th birthday! To commemorate this special occasion, an American flag was flown over the U.S. Capitol in her honor and she was presented with a certificate to celebrate this remarkable achievement!”
In another post dated July 14, Gonzalez addressed local veterans’ concerns following new legislation. He wrote: “I had the honor of gathering with our incredible veterans in Weslaco this past weekend. With the passage of the Big Ugly Bill, our veterans are now at risk of losing access to essential healthcare and food assistance.”
Vicente Gonzalez succeeded Rubén Hinojosa as representative for Texas’s 34th District and holds degrees from Embry–Riddle Aeronautical University (BA) and Texas Wesleyan University (JD).
